Munchkins are cats SOMETIMES born with short legs.  The original two females, that were used for the foundation of the breed, who had short legs, were discovered in the Southern United States. Munchkins are a natural mutation, not a man made breed. In the early days they thrived running loose on Boscobel Plantation.  In 1990, a captive breeding program was initiated and  "baby legs" kittens were on their way to becoming an established breed in The International Cat Association"
